Boston Dynamics' Spot is an agile mobile robot that navigates terrain with unprecedented mobility. Equipped with an inspection payload, a fully integrated arm, and Persistent Systems Radios, Spot helps first responders safely assess and de-escalate tense or hazardous situations at a distance. During inspections, the operator can use the Spot CAM+IR payload on the robot to learn more about the environment through a color ring camera with a 360° field of view, a pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera with 30x optical zoom, and a thermal camera. The operator can also use Spot's fully integrated arm to interact with the world from a distance. The arm can be remotely operated completely manually or semi-autonomously and opens doors, picks, places, pushes, and drags objects. In collaboration with Persistent Systems, Spot also utilizes the MPU5 Mobile Ad Hoc Networking radio (MANET) to provide real-time critical data. Operators can use this configuration to extend or repeat communications in a variety of operating environments. As a result of the payload kit, users can quickly deploy the robot in the field to support a wide range of requirements. By combining these capabilities onto a single platform, Spot allows operators to remotely explore dangerous situations safely and precisely.
