NYC-based defense tech company ranks 2694 overall and ninth in technology hardware, marking first time on list
Persistent Systems, LLC (“Persistent”), a leader in mobile networking solutions, announced today that it has been named by Inc. Magazine, the “leading media brand and playbook for the entrepreneurs and business leaders shaping our future,” to the Inc. 5000, its ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America.
“Inclusion in this prestigious list is a result of our team’s relentless pursuit to deliver advanced capabilities to our American warfighters and coalition partners,” said Dr. Herbert Rubens, CEO of Persistent Systems. “We work each day to deliver network technology that keeps our warfighters safe, empowers them with critical information enabling them to make better decisions, and ultimately achieve success in their mission.”
Persistent Systems was founded in 2007 by Dr. Rubens and Dr. David Holmer following the completion of their Ph.D.’s at The Johns Hopkins University. With a vision to revolutionize military communications, the founders established the company in New York City; believing that if their network could make it here, it could make it anywhere.
Today, Persistent is a 400-person defense-tech company with multiple offices across the country. Its mobile ad hoc network has been deployed across the U.S. and around the world, providing users with real-time access to voice, video, and situational awareness data.
“The culture we’ve built at Persistent has been the key to our continued growth,” said Dr. Rubens. “We believe that Connectivity Drives Mission Success for our users, which motivates us to continuously improve.”
Despite challenges like economic uncertainty, a fluctuating labor market, and inflationary pressure, all the honorees on this year’s list have achieved a remarkable feat with a median three-year revenue growth rate of 1,507 percent and a combined 52,805 jobs added to the U.S. economy.
“Making the Inc. 5000 is always a remarkable achievement, but earning a spot this year speaks volumes about a company’s tenacity and clarity of vision,” said Mike Hofman, editor-in-chief of Inc. “These businesses have thrived amid rising costs, shifting global dynamics, and constant change. They didn’t just weather the storm—they grew through it, and their stories are a powerful reminder that the entrepreneurial spirit is the engine of the U.S. economy.”
