As we start another year at Persistent Systems, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on 2024 and thank the entire Persistent family for making this past year a success!
In 2024, we were grateful to welcome numerous new team members, expand Wave Relay’s global reach, and give back to local communities, all while continuing to advance our technology.
As we reflect on 2024, here are the top ten moments that made waves at Persistent.
1. Workplace Awards
As a company, we take great pride in our culture, fostering an inclusive and positive workplace environment. In 2024, our commitment to this culture was exemplified in our recertification as A Great Place to Work® and a Platinum HIRE Vets Medallion Award Recipient. In addition, we were named an INC. Best Workplace Honoree for the first time. Receiving these awards is a testament to our enduring commitment to making all our team members feel welcomed and supported.
2. Two New Ecosystem Partners
In 2024, the number of Wave Relay® Ecosystem Partners reached 19, with Rheinmetall Canada and Peraton Remotec entering the fold. Now, platforms such as Rheinmetall’s Mission Master XT and Remotec’s Andros Spartan use the Wave Relay mobile ad hoc network (MANET) as their preferred system for command and control. As more companies join the Wave Relay® Ecosystem, warfighters can operate unmanned platforms on one unified network.
3. A Growing Team
In growing our networking footprint, we have grown our team by welcoming over 80 new team members, with a wide range of backgrounds including experience in government contracting, tactical communications, and network engineering. Twenty of these new hires are veterans excited to bring their expertise from the field to the office to advance our technology. We are grateful for these individuals who bring a fresh perspective to the company and can contribute to our mission to network the battlefield.
4. Blue UAS Certification Framework
At Persistent, we ensure our customer’s data is highly secure and protected against attacks. With security remaining a top priority of our engineering development process, our firmware has been updated to support FIPS 140-3, and our Cloud Relay™ solution features two layers of NIAP-approved security. Most notably, the Embedded Module has joined the MPU5 on the Blue UAS Framework, a list of commercially available NDAA-compliant UAS Components and software for DoD use.
5. Airborne Wave Relay® System (AWRS)
It is critical to seamlessly network aircraft, ground systems, and warfighters on the ground, therefore we continuously seek new systems to achieve this. One new product released in 2024 is the Airborne Wave Relay® System (AWRS), a quick-install MANET solution for select Aviation/Cessna aircraft. This FAA-approved system provides bidirectional, beyond-line-of-sight video connectivity for air-to-ground communications.
6. Cloud Relay™ Virtual Hub Router
As we redefine the future of global connectivity, launching the Cloud Relay Virtual Hub Router, which eliminates the need for a physical hub router, was a significant step in achieving this vision. Available for purchase by the hour on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) marketplace, the Cloud Relay Virtual Hub Router unites Wave Relay® networks over Satellite, 4G, LTE, 5G, private, and other IP-based Internet access systems throughout the world for communications anywhere. As we move into 2025, this system will play a pivotal role in future efforts for on-the-move communications.
7. Security for the Olympics
Due to the Wave Relay MANET’s ability to withstand highly congested and contested environments, it is commonly used for event security. When the challenge of ensuring reliable and constant lines of communication arose in securing the 2024 Summer Olympics, Persistent Systems, via DataHertz, was chosen to provide this network. Used by French Law Enforcement and military units during the Olympic Sailing competitions, they passed real-time text and geolocation data over the network for enhanced maritime domain awareness.
8. Support for Valiant Shield
As 2023 marked major milestones with the Air Force, we built on these efforts in 2024 by providing key networking capabilities for Valiant Shield, a joint field training exercise in the INDOPACOM region. Our MANET and Cloud Relay™ technologies maintained connectivity between aircraft, ships, ground forces, as well as forward-deployed and fixed operations centers over 11 days. Connecting commanders throughout Hawaii, Guam, and the First Island Chain, our technology successfully evaluated the Air Force’s Agile Combat Employment (ACE) concept by demonstrating MANET-Cloud High Mobility Radio (MCHMR) capabilities. In addition to our success at Valiant Shield, other exercises we participated in included Silent Swarm, Keen Edge, and Patriot 24.
9. Support for local communities
At Persistent, our reach extends past our customers into the local community. In 2024, our philanthropy committee aided twenty organizations, such as Home Base, Holy Apostles Food Bank, and Hope Chest for Women. One major act of community support provided was assisting first responders with Hurricane Helene’s relief efforts. With the hurricane impacting key communications infrastructure, seven dedicated team members from our North Carolina Office formed an emergency communications network using our Wave Relay MANET throughout the impacted area. Our efforts to help the local community are equally important to us as the work we do daily.
10. Business Growth
Exceeding our 2024 business goals, the Wave Relay MANET has increased its coverage area globally. Throughout the year, our team members have traveled from Southeast Asia to the Middle East, Europe, South America, and numerous locations across the U.S. for military exercises, equipment installations, and more. As the need for reliable communications grows, we expect Persistent to grow as we expand the reach of our global communications fabric.
With these monumental moves made in 2024, we have continued to build on the successes of previous years and are excited to continue these efforts throughout 2025 as we redefine communications.
